Today was a day for cycling southbound roughly parallel to Lake Champlain. I wasn’t ever very close to the shore, but instead over and along hills along the lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again I was fortunate with mostly small back roads. I started in the suburbs of Burlington. The photo above was the first view of the lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much of the morning route was labeled Champlain Bikeway, here in the town of Shelburne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this down through Charlotte. Fancy estates and houses here. Later it became more manufactured and mobile homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not sure exactly what they farm. I did see and smell multiple barns with dairy cows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These guys squawked when you got close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The town of Panton had a nice town hall. Most of these have an election drop box out front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addison shares the city sign with a bicycle caution sign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lunch at WAGS. They were doing good business. For the first time I saw multiple touring bicycles. Most were heading north and my guess was a weekend out from Burlington and now coming back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bridge! At 39 miles I crossed over to New York. There was a bike\/pedestrian path on both sides. I walked across mostly as a change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tourist information here. Roads didn’t have as wide of shoulders and in afternoon traffic also picked up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still good cycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parts are marked for the Empire Trail. New York has a route (both roads and off road) from New York City to the Canadian border and from Albany to Buffalo. I expect to follow much of these routes from here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall a solid non-eventful day with some climbing. Strava says<\/a>: 53.21 miles in 6:12:46 for an average of 8.6 mph. 2428 feet climbed and 4398 calories burned.<\/p>\n\n\n
