Made it just across the border into Pennsylvania. All day was following the same road (NY5\/PA5) as it went along Lake Erie. There were a few small places (Silver Creek, Dunkirk, Westfield) but I was more surprised at how little businesses were along the shore. Instead it was a mix of shore-side homes, cottages and some wineries. I could occasionally see the lake but there were also sections with forest and no views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was on the road early. I expected it to get warm, but it all stayed reasonable again today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first sign I saw for Erie Pennsylvania. However judging from informal signs this still has Buffalo Bills fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These people hung CDs by the garden. My guess is to ward off some pests. https:\/\/buffalo-niagaragardening.com\/2015\/05\/05\/use-old-cds-to-keep-deer-rabbits-away-plus-more-tips-on-garden-pests\/ <\/a>I don’t know how well it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had heard of Marmaduke and had to look up Brad Anderson was the author\/cartoonist. This town is an example of a place I crossed with no business or town buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gail Black wrote a personal memoir. I haven’t read it and needed to look things up but apparently the farm is also an important setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I passed through grape growing areas in both NY and PA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made it to the border. Farewell New York and hello again Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not much further and I had my place to stay. A nice motel that has cottages by the lake. That seemed fitting having cycled past similar areas today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strava says<\/a>: 56.48 miles in 6:00:03 for 9.4 miles\/hour. 1457 feet climbed and 4019 calories burned. Despite following a coast and not changing altitude, I was surprised at the climbs\/drops along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n
