Most of today was cycling along the Western Reserve Greenway, a paved rail trail that heads south from Ashtabula. After the last few days along Lake Erie, this was a pleasant and quiet ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early morning departure on the back streets of Ashtabula. The weather forecast was for 91F so I wanted to get most of the cycling in cooler temperatures. As it turned out, the Greenway had a lot of tree cover, which also helped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From mile #3 to mile #43, this was my path. I saw a few other trail users but it was mostly quiet. There was a short section where they had installed speed bumps, but otherwise smooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few roads were bypassed with bridges like this one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail had informative signs about the Underground Railroad. Also tools like this bike pump station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trees kept things cooler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vines are taking over this farm building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the winter, this is a snowmobile route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a short section of trail closure. The bypass was easy enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail came to an end and most of the route was smaller roads. Also stopped at a restaurant for lunch. After lunch it was noticeably hotter. Fortunately only eight miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are looking for it, Ohio has the Center of the World. Last few miles on OH route 5. The only one I’ve seen so far with shoulders. Nice to get to a motel without too much heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strava says<\/a>: 52.87 miles in 5:34:29 for 9.5 miles\/hour. 745 feet climbed and 3277 calories burned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
