Some years ago, I read books on the Lincoln Highway (mostly US 30 today) and also cycled the route from Cheyenne to Cedar Rapids. I remember Iowa was interesting because there were multiple parallel east/west options for routing a coast-to-coast highway and multiple railroads on these routes. The Coast to Coast Highway (US 6) and the Lincoln Highway were competitors and picked different choices across Iowa. This is in contrast with Nebraska where there was much more consolidation around one east/west route following the Platte River valley for highways (US 6, US 30), railroads, the Oregon Trail, etc.

Site of the first train robbery in the west by Jesse James and gang…

Anita even had a downtown. This sent some to shelter out the storm and later look to find tents, etc. Hope all turns out OK.

Elapsed Time

Moving Time

Distance

Average Speed

Max Speed

Elevation Gain

Calories Burned

07:37:52

hours

05:54:57

hours

56.84

mi.

9.61

mph

22.38

mph

2,165.35

ft.

4,050

kcal

Today was a pleasant ride on small Iowa roads, passing through multiple hamlets.
