Yesterday it rained until early afternoon. After that it was breezy. Taking a rest day in Platte turned out to be a good choice. The first night the motel was full. There was a group of 40 motorcyclists from Kansas City and myself. The second night I had the motel almost completely to myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today was a ride through rural areas. There were no towns, gas stations or other businesses until the very end near Chamberlain. Similar to yesterday, there were many open pastures and fewer fields of corn or soy beans. Very light wind and no threat of rain. I got on the road early, though today it wasn’t a concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rest day morning. Rain coming down meant the motorcyclists were not enthusiastic to get on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next morning with clear skies. This is the “4-way stop” in Platte and the main intersection. Very soon after this I passed the last open business for 50 miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the left you can see a hint of mist, presumably from the rain the day before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I passed farms such as the one on the left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Academy was the closest thing to a town I passed. This building was the closest thing to a store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stopped and fixed a flat tire. A small metal wire had worked its way through the tire to puncture the inner tube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Some cross roads are marked “minimum maintenance”. This is at the extreme of being possible for tractors and not much else. This and the low volume of traffic is why it doesn’t make sense to use RideWithGPS in an area like this…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was in to Chamberlain by early afternoon. Nice ride without as much weather (heat, wind, rain) concern.<\/p>\n\n\n
