I am no longer in mountain areas but instead in open dry mesa and sandstone country. Today was a relatively flat ride through the Ute\/Unitah reservation lands. There were several small settlements and a slightly larger town of Roosevelt so services weren’t too far apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, Vernal was the big town and I stopped at Walmart for a few things to eat. This morning I was back on the road at sunrise. After a mile I was on the edge of town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morning road. There was a good shoulder all day though sometimes littered with shredded tires. Grades were mostly gentile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many flat mesas along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wide flat open spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My morning stop after 20 miles at Fort Duchesne. Not too much later was Roosevelt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another stop, this time for lunch in Myton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Myton the road followed the Duchesne Creek. Close to the river we’re some irrigated fields. This looked like a type of hay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little further away this time and you could see the irrigated area was a narrow strip in a much larger arid area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without much difficulty, made it to Duchesne. The town has two traffic lights and a few other things. The motel I’m in isn’t staffed but instead they emailed a code for the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow is a tougher and longer day. From here at elevation 5500ft I’d like to get to the next pass at 8000ft but depending on how things go might end up camping somewhere along the way. Should be as much climbing as the first day from Fort Collins. Start at sunrise and see where I get. <\/p>\n\n\n
