Today is the second day of three crossing from Utah to the Snake River Valley. This is a remote area without much population but I found a spot in Malta that is a good stopping point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was cold last night. Not quite freezing but I was happy the bunkhouse had a portable heater. I waited until an hour after sunrise to depart and it was 38F so colder before then. The campground\/bunkhouse was nice. They even had a food truck where I ordered a breakfast (ham, eggs, mini cinnamon roll) before starting out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a few miles I crossed the second Snowville exit on I-84 and set off on smaller roads. As with yesterday this was a very lightly traveled road but good condition and nice to ride. There was a gradual 900ft rise over 15 miles to the UT\/ID border and then a gradual drop again. Clear and sunny skies and it warmed up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is actually a gas station in Malta. It and the convenience store are closed on Sunday. The restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday. So the sign seems about right for reliable services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This first area had some irrigated fields and also this large hay operation. This is normally a very dry area but you can still see a puddle from the last two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 25 mile mark was both the top of the hill and the Idaho border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I descended towards Malta, I came past irrigated fields again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Population 225 but just enough services to stay. I found an Airbnb trailer. This lets me charge my electronics, fill water and otherwise be ready for a morning departure. Tomorrow is a shorter distance but still nice to have a spot in this small town.<\/p>\n\n\n
