It is potato harvest time. I saw many “Spudnik” trucks heaped with potatoes and a few places they were harvesting. I also saw hay\/clover trucks. My route today was a mix of rural roads, interstate frontage roads and crossing Twin Falls on city streets. It was relatively flat and I had a slight tail wind. We started around 47F but it warmed nicely through the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the rural roads leaving Burley. Along the way was a mixture of rural property and some farms. I was impressed at how patient the drivers were in waiting to pass when necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extensive irrigation systems in this area. Canals, pumps, ditches, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not 100% sure but these remind me of beets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Potato harvesting. This machine digs them up and has a steady conveyor belt loading the truck. There is already a second truck waiting when the first is full. Many of these trucks both full and empty today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pump so you can fill a tank with water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These machines were smoothing out the green crop before it gets covered in plastic. Truck towards the right is bringing more crops to add to the pile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once I left the interstate, I crossed this bridge over the Snake River. The canyon is narrow here. Apparently a few miles down the canyon is the spot Evel Knievel tried jumping the canyon in 1974. I didn’t try finding the site or Shoshone Falls also nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After crossing the bridge, I took rural roads and then across Twin Falls where I had lunch. Mostly on small city streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irrigation water bubbling up. My last miles were on US 30 which started with a nice shoulder that unfortunately went away a little before Buhl. I arrived at the motel where they figured out they had just accidentally given away my room and there weren’t other available. They went to the person who had just rented and helped her find another place further down the road. Overall a nice ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
