Today was an easy ride that ended up losing 1000ft as I came along the Snake River further downstream. I also had multiple signs related to the Oregon Trail as apparently early pioneers were along the same route. Towards afternoon the wind picked up but fortunately I was close to Glenns Ferry before it was strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

End of September and it looks like some of the Halloween decorations are going up. I cycled through the rest of Buhl and then outbound on US 30. Traffic was a lot less than yesterday afternoon getting into Buhl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soon enough I was in the countryside again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I descended to the Snake River I came past signs such as this one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a nice rest area where I stopped for a morning snack. Looks like they discourage camping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hagerman was the first place I came through <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this a descent to nearly the river followed by a climb to the mesa. At top of the mesa was the town of Bliss and my lunch stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Bliss I met another touring cyclist, Mark, who started in Oregon and was headed to North Carolina. We traded info on the road ahead. After this the route went through more remote areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glenns Ferry is a small town but has a cafe that was open, an Airbnb setup (and a motel), a grocery so all I needed. Today was a good ride. The wind started to pick up in the afternoon but I got most of the way to Glenns Ferry before I had much headwind. The days keep getting shorter though I am going westward at a rate that keeps sunset close to the same time of roughly ~7:30pm. That means sunrise keeps getting later and is now just past 7:30am. Depending on how cold it is in the morning, this also means I might leave slightly later and hence come in slightly later in the afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve been looking at routes from Boise and expect a due west route across US 26 will have some colder mountain passes. So looking at getting across to the Columbia River drainage instead. Also expect once I get past the Cascade mountains it will start occasionally being wet in Portland… so need to see how to best finish things while avoiding too much cold and wet conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n
