Today was a lot of riding I-84. Noisy but smooth cycling. After yesterday with a rough chip seal shoulder, I wondered how much more I would have. In contrast, the first 13 miles were completely smooth and nothing later was as rough as yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arlington is in a secluded valley. The sun doesn’t peek in until late. I also wasn’t on the road until half an hour past sunrise. I’m glad I picked this side of the river as having a bed and a shower was nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the road starting out. Most signs had the distance to Portland and the mile markers also count down. There were a few very gradual hills but mostly flat today .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can be windy in the gorge and I was fortunate to have very little wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The John Day Dam. I am at barely 300ft altitude so not much further for the river to drop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other side of the dam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally at mile 28, there was a frontage road. Very little traffic on this road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now more formally in the scenic gorge area. This was next to a state park where we cycled\/camped with the Portland Bicycle Club. Getting to familiar areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another short stretch of I-84 before reaching The Dalles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dalles Dam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now in The Dalles itself. I cycled past downtown and then found a motel on the far side. A not too difficult day that is bringing me further west.<\/p>\n\n\n
