Today started as a wet ride and so no photos from the first half of the trip. I also had showers in the second half but also a brief instance of sun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was a route I had cycled before. While living in Portland, each year I had cycled my own ride from Seattle to Portland. I also used this route in loops to get to the coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US 30 is a direct route with a good shoulder. There is a moderate amount of traffic and today I found the wet road had a lot of mist\/spray from passing trucks. So it wasn’t the most scenic ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Light rain starting in Portland. I made my way down and across the Steele Bridge and then via Naito Parkway via a more industrial area and then on to US 30. The road was good but wet as I headed north. I made a brief stop in Scappoose for brunch. The photo above was taken as I entered St Helens at mile 29. The sun came out briefly and you can even see shadows! The photo is also a good example of the road. Two lanes each way, sometimes a middle turn lane. In the towns, a curb and between towns no curb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signs now for Astoria on the coast. There road today was mostly flat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Outpost Restaurant and Bar was a good lunch stop. The sun was shining when I got this photo before lunch. It was raining when I finished lunch but that was one of the last showers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A large paper\/lumber yard. I was passed by log trucks today and some of them turned in here. In the distance is the bridge between Rainier and Longview. There was a two and a half foot shoulder and a lot of traffic but it all worked in crossing the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bridge also crossed between Oregon and Washington. I didn’t see a Washington sign but was also concentrating on the bridge and traffic behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the bridge a few miles to get to middle of Longview town. It was nice to get a dry place at the end of the ride. Weather forecast is drier the next two days.<\/p>\n\n\n
