Wilmington, riding in the rain
Today it stayed almost dry for the first 35 miles. However, I had some heavier rain the last 10 miles and still got soaked. It was tough to time this one with scattered showers forecast until 5pm
I continued to follow the adventure cycling route as it passed small towns of Odell, Dwight, Gardner and Braceville. These towns had their Route 66 signs out. However I didn’t stop as much since I figured if it wasn’t raining I wanted to take advantage to keep moving and if it was raining I wanted to keep going.
Early morning starting out. Motels I stay at are frequently close to the interstate so the first first thing was to ride to town along the strip. Pontiac has ~10,000 residents so also some city streets.
Back to the frontage road and past an old building.
Historic gas station with on the far left an electric vehicle charger.
Welcome to Dwight
TV shop with a Zenith sign
Casey’s is a popular brand of convenience store in Illinois (more so than Indiana or earlier). It was just starting to rain, stopped and then poured much more after that. This was a good stop to get my rain gear out.
Otherwise not as much in riding today. I now get out the maps for Chicago. If I follow the Adventure Cycling route, it is 84 miles and two days but that has some extra zig zags so trying to look for a shorter route.
