Seattle, rest days
Two quiet days in Seattle. Sunday had some intermittent showers and Monday was mostly raining.
I made a walk through Seattle and stopped through the REI store and then over to the Space Needle. I have visited the Space Needle in the past, so no reason to go to the top again. There was a pavilion here and they were holding TurkFest, a Turkish cultural festival. After that, walked back along Pike Street Market and then back to the hotel.
Monday I figured out some of the transit system. You purchase an ORCA card and then load it with $ for your fares. I used this to take the bus to a laundromat. There don’t seem to be many laundries downtown, but I found one not far from University of Washington. After that a roundabout trip back downtown. Overall some quiet days here mostly downtown.
I also tallied up my numbers for the trip. These include:
- 26 state capitols visited
- 6604 miles traveled by bicycle
- 47 motels owned by Patels
- 224 counties visited. This is 7% of the counties in the US and accounts for ~20% of the population of the US. In total, I have now bicycled in 880 counties. This is ~28% of the counties in the US and accounts for ~58% of the US population.
From here the plan is to take the Empire Builder train to Chicago and then the Texas Eagle train to Austin. This is about ~75 hours on the train. This all gets me to Austin just before I am back at work next Monday. For the near term, I’ll be back to shorter bicycle trips for a while.
